Assault Suspect Arrested After Attacking Ex-Girlfriends’ Companion

An assault suspect was arrested in Canyon Country Saturday after he allegedly attacked a companion of his ex-girlfriend with the butt-end of a knife.

Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 26800 block of Isabella Parkway in Canyon Country regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, according to Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned as the victim was exiting the restroom, he was hit with the butt-end of a knife by the ex-boyfriend of a female companion,” Arriaga said.

Deputies conducted a search in the immediate area and were able to locate the suspect within one of the apartments, according to officials.

The victim was transported to a hospital after sustaining minor injuries, according to Arriaga.

Benjamin Ponce, 51, from San Fernando, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon, Arriaga said.

The suspect was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and later released on bond, according to Arriaga.
