Attempted Kidnapping, Child Molestation Suspect Arrested After Trying To Lure Children Into Vehicle

A Valencia man has been arrested on attempted kidnapping and molestation charges after allegedly attempting to lure children walking home from school into his vehicle, officials said Tuesday.

Christyn Cato, 40, was arrested for attempted kidnapping and multiple counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, deputies and detectives investigated a report of an adult male suspect driving a blue pickup truck who allegedly pulled up next to two 13-year-old-female victims who were walking home from school in the area of Market Street and Railroad Avenue in Newhall, according to Miller.

“The victims said that the suspect asked them if they were okay, and if they needed a ride,” Miller said. “The victims said the suspect also placed his vehicle in the crosswalk, blocking their path. The victims declined any ride offer.”

Through investigation, it was learned that the same suspect had reportedly contacted one of the 13-year-old victims earlier in February by allegedly pulling up next to her, initiating small talk and offering her a ride, according to Miller.

Based on this information, deputies worked to identify, locate and arrest the suspect on Saturday, Feb. 22, for investigation of attempted kidnapping and child annoyance, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“There have been some reports that the same suspect may have approached other teenagers and offered them rides, or tried enticing them into his vehicle,” Miller said.

Cato is being held on $170,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies are asking the public to contact the station at (661) 255-1121 if they have any information about this suspect or similar crimes.

  1. Castration and five years.

  2. Do we still have the firing squad?

  3. That man is sick and suggesting you kill him is against the law too. Thankfully he was caught. This isn’t the Wild West here, we’re a nation of laws, regardless of the crime.

  4. Can a picture be posted so we can all be aware of what he looks like? It’s important for the community to know who he is.

  5. I was one of the kids that he tried to pull up on.I was going to cross the street with my friend and then a blue Chevrolet pick up truck stopped right in front of us and stared at us for a good 2-3 minutes. (We’re both 14) I have a habit of keeping calm and acting nonchalant in crazy and dangerous scenarios so to avoid looking at him or being near him, I turned to my left (he was driving to my right) And slowly walked away. It also seemed like he wanted to talk to us and me and my friend live in the ghetto I guess you say so it’s quite common for me but she was a tad bit scared. We told our moms about but thank god that he’s now under arrest.
