A Canyon Country high-speed chase was canceled on Tuesday after reaching speeds of 140 mph, officials said.
Around 8 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound 14 Freeway near the Escondido Summit, according to Officer Josh Greengard of the CHP Newhall Office.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop, Greengard said.
The suspect then allegedly fled from officers and reportedly reached speeds of around 140 mph, Greengard said.
“Traffic got too heavy, so the pursuit was canceled for the public’s safety,” Greengard said.
The chase was terminated near the 5 and 405 interchange, according to officials.
CHP officers have the license plate number of the vehicle they were pursuing, and are working to locate the suspect.
