Canyon Country Pursuit Suspect Arrested Nearly 1 Month After Fleeing From Deputies

A man was arrested Monday after he allegedly led deputies on a Canyon Country pursuit in July that was terminated due to unsafe speeds.

On Tuesday, July, 19, deputies conducting a patrol check of Galixy Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country observed a vehicle accelerating in an unsafe manner, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies determined the vehicle was driving recklessly while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics,” Arriaga said. “As deputies exited their vehicle during an initiated traffic stop, the vehicle proceeded to flee down Sand Canyon Road, cross of Soledad Canyon Road, leading to a vehicle pursuit.”

Due to unsafe speeds, the Canyon Country pursuit was terminated along Hayfork Road and Bouquet Canyon Road.

The suspect remained at large at the time the incident occurred.

Through investigative work, deputies were able to identify the suspect and located him on Monday.

Jonathan Cuervo, 23, from Canyon Country was arrested for felony evading, according to officials.

The Canyon Country pursuit suspect was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $75,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
