Carjacking Suspect Detained At Gunpoint In Canyon Country

A carjacking suspect was detained at gunpoint Monday night after reportedly stealing car keys and an iPhone in Canyon Country.

Just after 7 p.m. Monday, officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received reports of a possible vehicle theft on the 14000 block of Water Lily Court in Canyon Country.

“A possible carjacking was reported,” said Sergeant Cox with the station.

Initial reports indicate that the suspect, a 23-year-old Hispanic man, stole an iPhone from a woman in addition to her car keys, and was seen driving southbound on Abelia Road in a black, 2016 four-door Lexus.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to the scene to treat any injuries stemming from the incident, but left without taking anyone to a hospital, according to a dispatch supervisor with the department.

Then, just before 7:45 p.m., the suspect was located returning to the location where the crime was originally reported. Deputies were still on scene investigating, and were able to detain the suspect at gunpoint without incident, according to officials on scene.

Deputies were still on scene as of 8:05 p.m. Monday.
