Court Releases Findings From Santa Clarita Baby Death Investigation

Preliminary findings pointing to the cause of a Santa Clarita baby’s death, whose father has been arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released.

Details about the cause of death for Santa Clarita baby Jelani Taylor, who passed away in September, have been released as part of an effort last week to oppose a bail reduction for the child’s father, Marcel Taylor.

Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jonathan A. Hatami argued against a request from the defense to reduce the suspect’s bail from $2 million to $30,000.

Hatami stated that the man is a danger to the public because of injuries he inflicted on his daughter.

Los Angeles County medical examiners’ preliminary findings were that Taylor, who was two months old at the time of her death, died from blunt force trauma caused by homicide.

The child suffered from various injuries, including an impact injury on the back of her head, retinal hemorrhaging, a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a subdural hematoma and cerebral edema.

According to Hatami, Taylor’s father called authorities early in the morning on Sept. 26 stating that he had a baby who was in her crib not breathing.

Officials observed that the father was nonchalant and emotionless during the 911 call and when authorities arrived at his home.

Hatami added that Taylor’s father eventually admitted to shaking Taylor and waiting several minutes after Taylor was injured before calling authorities.

The father has not provided an explanation for the impact injury Taylor suffered to the back of her head.

Taylor passed away in Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Sept. 29 after being treated for her injuries.

Hatami argued Taylor’s father should not be released on no-cost bail, on home confinement, or be granted a reduction in bail.

“If the defendant would murder his own child, who he is legally responsible for protecting, he clearly poses a danger to the public at large,” Hatami said.

  1. He needs to be beaten himself, hopefully there will be a jailhouse hero ! Even prisoners dislike child abusers !

  2. There is a special place for people like that, it is called HELL. I believe he will have Hell on earth in the prison system, then later in Hell itself. Anything that happens to this coward will not justify the death of the innocent baby.

  3. The poor little baby’s name was Jelani & so called father was Marcel, Interesting! How could it do that to an infant?! Has anyone had awareness of that creature Marcel around town?! See something, say something!

  4. He did not do this, do more research before you believe everything you read
