Newhall Pursuit Suspect Charged After Chase Ends With Passenger Trapped In Crash

A Newhall man was charged with four felonies earlier this month after he allegedly led deputies on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash in May.

On Wednesday’ June 1, Oscar Castillo, 27, from Newhall had four felony charges filed against him in court in connection with a Newhall pursuit, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Charges include:

  • fleeing a pursuing  peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly,
  • fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle and driving against traffic,
  • hit and run driving resulting in injury to another person,
  • and driving or taking a vehicle without consent.

On Tuesday, May 17, deputies located Castillo and a passenger in a stolen vehicle near Railroad Avenue and Oak Ridge Drive in Newhall, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at the time of the arrest.

Castillo fled when deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Due to Castillo driving recklessly, deputies terminated the chase, Arriaga said.

After the pursuit was canceled, Castillo continued driving recklessly and collided with several parked vehicles on Walnut Street, just south of Lyons Avenue.

The crash left Castillo’s passenger trapped in the vehicle, according to Arriaga.

Castillo fled on foot, while his passenger was extricated from the vehicle by first responders and transported to the hospital.

Deputies were unable to locate Castillo until Friday, May 27, when he was spotted riding a bike on the 27200 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

Although initially he was arrested for kidnapping, due to his passenger claiming she was in the vehicle without consent, no such charges were filed against Castillo.

  1. “Claiming”. Unfortunately it’s hard to prove if she’s lying or not.

  2. About 20 years in the slammer seems about right for this A-Hole.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
