Former adult film star Ron Jeremy, 69, was committed to a state mental health facility Tuesday.
Jeremy was committed to the state mental health facility after he was found incompetent to stand trial in multiple sexual assault cases, including assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a house party in Santa Clarita, according to Greg Risling, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The case against Jeremy which included over 30 instances of sexual assault was suspended in March 2022 amid questions about his mental competence. It has been declared that due to “severe dementia” Jeremy will not stand trial.
Jeremy is accused of sexually assaulting more than 20 women over a 23-year span dating back to 1996. The victims range in age from 15 to 51, with a Santa Clarita teen being the youngest known victim.
The former porn star previously pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of forcible rape, seven counts of forcible oral copulation, six counts of sexual battery by restraint, four counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, two counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious or asleep person and one count each of lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 or 15, sodomy by use of force and assault with intent to commit rape.
In an email obtained by The LA Times, L.A. County Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul Thompson said mental health experts called on by prosecutors and Jeremy’s defense team have determined he suffers from severe dementia, and there is no evidence he is faking his symptoms.
Jeremy is scheduled to appear in court on May 8 for a progress report, Risling said.
