A woman accused of abusing a three-month-old puppy to the point where it had to be euthanized returned to court Friday, officials said.
Kathryn Wilde, 27, of Canyon Country, is accused of abusing a three-month-old puppy that deputies found “barely breathing,” according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
On Sept. 27, deputies responded to the 23000 block of Drayton Street in Canyon Country after receiving a call from a woman that someone had taken her dog and refused to return it, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It turns out the suspect is the one who called the Sheriff’s Station on Friday,” Miller said. “She called stating that a person wouldn’t return her dog to her. It turns out an acquaintance had the dog and the dog was in bad shape because of injuries allegedly sustained while in the care of the suspect.”
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found that the dog, a three-month-old Chihuahua mix puppy, was “barely breathing,” according to Miller.
“One of the deputies transported the puppy to the Castaic Animal Shelter to be assessed by a vet,” Miller said. “Unfortunately, the puppy had to be euthanized due to the severity of the injuries and the amount of pain it was in.”
Deputies proceeded to arrest Wilde on charges of animal cruelty, according to Miller.
A few days later, Wilde was formally charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to officials.
She is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 18 for a preliminary hearing setting.
