Customer Who Refused To Wear Mask Arrested For Criminal Threats After Altercation With Staff

A Canyon Country man was arrested for criminal threats Saturday evening after allegedly getting into an altercation with staff over refusing to wear a mask inside a business, officials said.

At about 11 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a business on the 18200 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country regarding a disturbance/fight call for service, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

It was reported that approximately 10-15 people were fighting. Upon arrival, deputies did not observe anyone fighting, according to Arriaga.

“During an investigation, deputies learned the suspect made verbal threats during an argument with staff after being told he needed to wear a mask while inside the location,” Arriaga said.

A physical altercation took place between the victim, another staff member and the suspect, according to investigators.

“While the suspect walked around the parking lot after the altercation, law enforcement personnel was called,” Arriaga said.

The suspect, Askkan Kamrani, 33, of Canyon Country, was arrested on the scene without incident on charges of criminal threats, according to Arriaga.

The victim did not sustain any injuries, according to Arriaga.

Kamrani was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $50,000 bail.

  1. While some people may think it is their right not to wear a mask or to wear other items that may be controversial, they need to remember store is owned by a private individual or firm. You enter the store only with their permission and that permission can be revoked and you asked or ordered to leave. Failure to do so makes you a trespasser subject to arrest.
Regardless of your personal feelings, give due respect and consideration the store and their employees. They have rights too and on their property their rights outweigh yours.

  2. Not to mention wearing masks in a business is mandated here! And it’s about time idiots that want to contest the wearing of them are arrested! Things are going in the right direction! We have no tolerance fo this behavior! Get with the program or stay home! It’s that simple!
