In an operation to keep businesses safe, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials arrested 11 individuals Friday night.
Friday night, units from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Burglary and Theft Team carried out an operation in a shopping center, which resulted in 11 arrests.
“You might have been shopping next to a detective or deputy last night, and not even realized it during our operation to keep business areas safe in SCV,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station on Saturday. “On Friday evening, one of the detectives on our station’s Burglary/Theft Team organized a retail crime suppression amidst reports of theft and other crimes occurring in and around area shopping centers.”
Similar operations of this nature had been carried out in the past, according to Miller.
The officials in the operation were said to be in both uniform and plain clothes as well as moving in both visible and unmarked vehicles.
The 11 arrests included charges such as possession of a controlled substance, petty theft, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle among others, according to Miller.
“We want to reassure businesses that ‘we have their backs’ and let residents and visitors know that they can frequent retail areas without fear of being victimized,” Miller wrote.

It’s always like that! Should be used to that by now…….
Happy to hear they didn’t arrest the business owners for trying to make a living.
Supposed reporter’s Michael Brown & David Melarnik always leaves out The Who, what, where, when, how & why. The public needs to know the truths/facts to stay safe!
Thank you Law enforcement for continuing to serve and protect this valley on a regular basis! I/we appreciate all your hard work and dedication. This valley is and has been a very safe place to live for a long time and it’s because of your work.
Lots of city’s got seriously looted in Southern California here recently, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc…
Not here!!……and as a resident of 27 years, I wasn’t surprised, thank you.
I am with Richard on this. Santa Clarita is different because it is one of the few cities left in CA where lawlessness is not tolerated and it is what keeps law-abiding citizens living here. I appreciate that LASD and the captain still try to maintain law and order despite the rest of the state descending into anarchy.
Please, stop fooling yourself by thinking SCV is unique in any way. Ask anyone you meet “ what type of environment they you like to live in, or raise a family in?” and the answer will be the same; safe, clean, healthy, friendly, good schools, etc.,
Do you honestly think anyone, if given the opportunity or the means would CHOOSE to live in a crime-ridden, unhealthy, unsafe environment? Isn’t it time we recognize the basic humanity of ALL people? Instead of pointing out what makes “us” different aka “special” why not acknowledge that ALL people deserve to live in an environment that is safe, clean, healthy and sustainable. By focusing on what sets “us” apart from “others” simply promotes a false sense of entitlement and security for “us” at the expense of others. When you say lawlessness is not tolerated here in SCV, that sounds ridiculous because I bet you cannot name a city where it is welcomed or celebrated. By the way, most people are decent and law abiding and do not even reside in SCV; you appear to be very narrow minded and fearful. I feel you must miss out on a lot that life offers. Try stepping out of your insular bubble, there’s much more to life than SCV.
Alleys Z.: SCV is unique, the majority of the citizens care, behave, work hard, etc. You stated “ if anyone were GIVEN the opportunity and GIVEN the means” for a decent environment. A clean, safe, etc. environment is not GIVEN, it’s worked hard for and proper, decent, civilized BEHAVIOR. If the parent(s) in those bad environments taught their children and role modeled decent behavior, reported to LE the name and pictures of thugs, graffiti vandals, thieves, burglars, shooters, etc., that would slowly change the area for civilized neighbors. You went on about what sets us and them apart is behaviors—look at the examples of BLM & the other Anarchist have done—those behaviors is what sets civilized apart from uncivilized! When you excuse bad behavior/lifestyles, it only lets it continue!
Richard & SCV safe: Definitely agree! Thanks for continued great work Sheriff’s!!
