Double Homicide Suspect Arrested In Santa Clarita

A suspect wanted in connection with a double homicide was arrested in Santa Clarita Friday, officials said.

At around 9:30 a.m. Friday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station located a vehicle matching the description of wanted felony suspects in the O’Riley’s parking lot near Sierra Highway and Via Princessa, said Sgt. Joel Nebel with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Two people were detained in connection with a shooting,” Nebel said at the time.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau then took over the investigation of the incident, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We did conduct a traffic stop in that area on a felony vehicle that was connected to a homicide,” Miller said. “There were two occupants taken to the station to be interviewed by Homicide Bureau investigators.”

One of the two detained, 27-year-old Jonathan Charles Johnson, was arrested on murder charges. He is currently being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, with bail set at $2 million.

Johnson’s arrest was made in connection with a crime that occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 14 within the Century Sheriff’s Station’s area of Los Angeles, Miller confirmed.

Officials were unable to discuss any further details regarding the specific incident, as it was still under active investigation. However, only one reported double homicide occurred in the Century Sheriff’s Station area that day.

In that instance, deputies with the Century Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of gunshots at the 1100 block of East 68th Street in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“Upon arrival, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds,” officials said late Wednesday night. “One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”

Additionally, another man who was suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said.

Investigators later learned that the two deceased victims had been standing outside a parked car along the residential street when “the suspect’s vehicle drove up and a passenger opened fire, striking both men.”
