Over 60 percent of the arrests reported in Santa Clarita over the weekend were charges involving drugs and alcohol.

Over the weekend, 38 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and Newhall California Highway Patrol, according to weekend arrest logs.

24 of the 38 arrests, 63 percent, were charges related to drugs and alcohol. 14 of those 24 arrests were reported as drivers under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both.

The other ten arrests were charges of possession of a controlled substance and/or paraphernalia.

Out of the 38 total reported arrests, 19 arrested individuals were residents outside of Santa Clarita, including Sylmar, Burbank and Eagle Point, Oregon.

Not included in that count were three transient individuals, two of which were arrested with drug possession, the other on charges of disobeying court orders.

Five of the weekend arrests were felonies out of 38 total arrests, including charges of forgery, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an executive officer.
