A drunk driver was arrested for his fourth DUI Friday, making it a felony, after he was found asleep behind the wheel on a 14 Freeway off-ramp in Canyon Country. 

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers observed a vehicle stopped in the No. 1 lane on the Sand Canyon off-ramp from the 14 Freeway, occupied by a possible drunk driver, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson with the CHP Newhall Area Office.  

“(The driver) was slumped over the steering wheel, asleep in the driver seat while stopped at a signal,” Greengard said.  

Officers contacted the driver, Jose Salazar, 38, from Palmdale who was subsequently arrested for DUI, Greengard said.  

“This is Salazar’s fourth DUI arrest which constitutes it a felony,” Greengard said. 

Salazar was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail and given no bail, according to Arrest logs.
