Drunk Driver Arrested For ‘Squeezing’ Through Newhall Crash Site, Hitting Patrol Vehicle

A drunk driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .23 percent was arrested early Sunday morning after hitting a patrol vehicle while attempting to squeeze through an active crash site in Newhall.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, deputies were blocking a lane of traffic to protect the scene of a traffic collision on the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Avenida Rotella in Newhall when a drunk driver approached the location, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station

“While proceeding through with the investigation and ensuring all parties received assistance, a female driver decided she would squeeze through a patrol vehicle blocking the lane, and drive through the scene of the collision,” Arriaga said. “Deputies immediately ordered the female driver to stop after causing damage to the patrol vehicle.”

When the driver was ordered out of the vehicle, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath.

Field sobriety tests determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, with her blood alcohol concentration reaching .23 percent – nearly triple the legal limit to operate a vehicle, according to Arriaga.

Jocelyn Alvarez, 33, from North Hollywood was arrested for driving under the influence and DUI with a BAC above 0.08 percent, according to Santa Clarita booking logs.

The drunk driver was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $15,000 bail and later released on citation to appear in court at a later date, according to booking logs.

“As a reminder, please always have a designated driver planned ahead,” Arriaga said. “Help keep our streets safe by avoiding drinking and driving.”

  1. Wow at .23 you can still be booked and released never to appear again and probably keep her license. Remember when we used to frown upon DUI? I hardly do either. No wonder it happens at the frequency it does. It is barely a traffic citation now. Good job voters.

  2. There is a huge difference between the legal BAC, which is 0.08 percent and 0.8, as the author claims. If it were 0.8, the woman wouldn’t be considered to be driving under the influence.

  3. I bet she is a FUN date!
