A drunk man was arrested on felony vandalism Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly broke a van window in Newhall.
Around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to 8th Street and Railroad Avenue in Newhall regarding a reported vandalism, said Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
During their investigation, deputies learned the suspect broke the window to a van parked near the intersection, according to Arriaga.
Prior to deputies arriving on scene, the suspect was observed walking on Railroad Avenue in oncoming traffic yelling profanities at passing vehicles, according to officials on scene.
“While speaking with him, deputies smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the suspect,” Arriaga said.
The suspect was positively identified as the individual responsible for breaking the van window by a reporting witness during a field show, according to Sheriff’s officials.
German Olmosanedo, 43, from Santa Paula, was arrested for felony vandalism and a misdemeanor count of being drunk in public, Arriaga added.
Olmosanedo was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $20,000, according to arrest records.
