Drunk Newhall Vandalism Suspect Arrested After Shattering Window After Verbal Argument

A drunk Newhall vandalism suspect was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly shattered a window after a verbal argument.

On Wednesday around 2 p.m., deputies responded to the 23700 block of Lyons Avenue regarding a vandalism call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

It was reported a male Hispanic adult smashed a window to a local business and was possibly intoxicated, and injured, according to Arriaga.

“During their investigation, deputies learned while the suspect was in a verbal argument with another unidentified male, he punched the window of the business, causing it to shatter,” Arriaga said. “During the argument, the suspect was also observed drinking an alcoholic beverage.”

While speaking with the male, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person, Arriaga said.

Franklin Mejiacubias, 39, of Panorama City, was arrested and booked for felony vandalism and public intoxication, a misdemeanor, Arriaga added.

The suspect was treated on scene by paramedics and released, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Mejiacubias was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $20,000, according to arrest records.

  1. Why was the suspect’s ethnicity deemed important enough to be included in this article?

  2. More excusing by Denny! We already know that 80-87% of two cultures, who it probably was!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
