DUI Charges Make Up Bulk Of Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests

This weekend, Santa Clarita arrests were down with 60 percent of charges being driving under the influence (DUI).

Between Friday and Sunday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office arrested 15 individuals, according to Arrest records.

This is a decrease from the previous weekend, which saw 25 arrests.

Of the arrests made, nine individuals were arrested for misdemeanor DUI, one was arrested for felony DUI and another was from being drunk in public, according to arrest logs.

Around 5 a.m. Saturday, first responders received reports of a three-vehicle traffic collision on the 5 Freeway near Gorman School Road, according to Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

The individual who caused the crash was allegedly driving drunk, according to Greengard.

Due to her being under the influence and causing an injury crash, Saraan Smith, 23, from Lancaster was arrested on felony DUI, according to Greengard.

Other arrests that occurred in the Santa Clarita Valley over the weekend included a grand theft.

On Friday, deputies arrested a Valencia man on felony grand theft, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The man was arrested after he allegedly stole items from his neighbor’s vehicle while she was unloading items into her apartment, Arriaga said.

Thomas George, 62, from Valencia was charged with felony grand theft.

Nine of the suspects arrested were not from Santa Clarita, four of the arrests were residents and the last two were reported as transients.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
