A DUI suspect was arrested on the Fourth of July after passing a deputy at around 100 miles per hour with a blood alcohol content nearly triple the legal limit, officials said.
A deputy heading back to the station Saturday around 11:30 p.m. was traveling on the northbound 5 Freeway when he observed a driver pass him at an “alarming rate of speed,” estimated to be just under 100 mph, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“A traffic stop was conducted at Magic Mountain Parkway (at) I-5 freeway,” Miller said.
The deputy detained the 32-year-old male driver from Pacoima pending a DUI investigation, according to Sheriff’s officials.
“A Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) was administered to the driver and the blood alcohol level came back as 0.22, over two and a half times the legal limit,” Miller said.
The suspect’s car was towed and the driver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.
