Elderly Woman Fires ‘Warning Shot,’ Holds Intruder At Gunpoint After Canyon Country Burglary

An elderly woman fired a “warning shot” after a man broke into her home, and held the suspect at gunpoint before deputies were able to take him into custody, officials said.

On Thursday around 2 p.m., deputies received reports of a possible burglary call on the 15000 block of Baker Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The elderly female victim called 9-1-1 and said the male adult was knocking and trying to get into her house,” Miller said. “She did not know who he was.”

Moments later, the burglary suspect made entry into her home, according to Miller.

“She locked herself in a room, (and) the suspect allegedly forced entry into the room,” Miller said.

The victim had a firearm, and told the suspect to leave, according to Miller.

After the suspect exited the house, the woman fired one shot in the air and told the suspect to get on the ground, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“He was on the ground when deputies arrived,” Miller said.

Collin Keoshian, 29, from Valencia, was arrested on felony burglary charges, Miller added.

No injuries were reported, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Keoshian was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.

  1. Good job granny. Get at these punks.

  2. Stand up and wake up

  3. This is the kind of story that is surely to make you smile, even pump your fist in the air! YEAH!! Gotta love it! He’s lucky she didn’t blow his loser head off! ? Excellent story, and it just goes to show you, don’t mess with people ‘cause you don’t know what they’re capable of! Don’t underestimate granny! I just love stories like this! Thanks KHTS!

  4. Oh look GUNS DO SAVE Lives in the hands of Responsible people!

  5. Bail amount is way to low! Threatening an elderly woman should be at lease $100,000.

  6. You go girl! Love this story! Glad she’s okay!

  7. This is AWESOME. I would LOVE to have her as MY neighbor!

  8. ?????
Yay for you and NRA !
Good thing he didn’t make it to my house !

  9. Way to go! Can you imagine this happening under Biden / Harris? What would have happened to Granny?

  10. AWESOME JOB !!!!! What a Looser- trying to get in Grammas Home. Lock him up for good!

  11. Agree guns do save lives!! Thank You NRA and Second Amendment!! Congratulations to the strong woman for protecting herself and not letting that thug go!!

  12. I met that man on Metrolink train. He tried to sell me some stolen merchandise. He left me his name and telephone number.

  13. Great job to the woman who stopped him. One thing for sure is NEVER MESS WITH A WOMAN WHO FEELS VIOLATED IN ANYWAY!!!! The older we get the more pissed off we become meaning we have zero tolerance for STUPID PEOPLE!!!

  14. This lady did a good job not becoming a willing victim, despite California’s draconian gun laws. An armed woman can and should protect herself. Even under the best circumstances, law enforcement cannot always be there to protect you so kudos to her!

  15. Goes to show “don’t mess with us older folks”. More of us need to be more pro-active.
Too bad she didn’t aim at “where the sun doesn’t shine” Way to go Lady!!!
    Bail way to low.

  16. Awesome !! Glad she was armed, glad she’s physically ok!
Glad the guy was scared !!
    Wooohooooo !!
    2nd amendment rocks !

  17. Im loving the comments this morning. Just thinking that some people want to take our guns away from us…

  18. Great job Grannie Annie Oakley! We, our forefathers, the NRA and William S. Hart are proud of you!! You’re just Simply Safe, the American way!!

  19. Yes. Good for Granny and another reminder that good people have a right to bear arms and defend themselves. The unfortunate thing about this is the guy doing the crime, Colin, was a good kid and young man who grew up in our community. Was a football star at one of our local private schools. But it seemed he had some mental challenges that plagued him for quite awhile. Very unfortunate incident but thankfully it did not turn out with Granny being harmed or someone being shot (Granny, Colin or the police).

  20. Good job! Grandma won’t be a victim and saved others from becoming his victim!

  21. It’s a shame poor Colin had some mental abnormalities! To use the constant PC terms “challenges”, it candy-coats” the accurate problems that people have! If parent(s), teachers, etc. don’t observe and tell the truths(the child is walking pigeon toed, cutting themselves, cussing, graffitiing, beating, other mental/physical abnormalities) how can they get proper help!? Something as simple as pigeon/duck toes/walking can prevent future pain with walking/running as well as other abnormalities (PC called challenges) to mask a wonderful future! Stop PC excusing/cover-up! Tell the truth/facts for everyone’s betterment! We’re all not perfect and have different challenges, if one cares, one will tell the truth! Thanks Granny, next time, he may not be so lucky!

  22. No PC excuse was being promoted so please get off your judgmental rant. The sad thing is a young man who previously was a very good and respected person ended up doing something like this. If it was due to mental issues it doesn’t in any way justify the crime or the consequences due him as a result of his actions/the crime. The good things here are 1) his actions did not result is someone, including himself, being harmed or killed and 2) Granny, backed by her Constitutional right, was able to defend herself with a gun. Remember Granny’s example the next time you hear some of our whacko politicians trying to convince you that an American citizens’ right to bear arms is somehow wrong, or racist, or whatever.

    • No high horse, just using more accurate /truthful words. No PC words were promoted, just used. Mental challenges & issues are candy coating the more accurate word, Abnormalities!! When using PC words, it softens/lessens a bad behavior!

      • Abnormalities??? How about using the correct term, a mental health disorder and his use of the term mental challenges is correct. Stop stigmatizing having a mental health disorder.

        • Did use the correct term, Abnormalities!! When sheeple use PC words, it candy-coats reality and slows down helping the truths/facts! Example: The filthy rapist felon was let out of jail early by the Liberals =The GENTLEman is revisiting home! Tell the truth/facts & stop excusing & the cover-up of truths/facts, we’re suppose to behave like emotionally/mentally stable Adults, not over-sensitive children!

  23. She is obviously a very smart, calm woman to have handled it the way she did. He is so lucky that she was the one on the other end of the gun. In my book, she is a hero.

  24. Is this the Collin Keoshian who went to BYU and graduated from SCCS?

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
