Felony Arrests Increase In Santa Clarita Valley Over Weekend

Following the previous weekend of 21 total arrests made, this weekend of April 16 to April 18 saw 16 total arrests with an increase of felonies by 10 percent as compared to the weekend of the 9th to the 12th.

After an eventful week in crime, the weekend brought 16 arrests, including six felonies. These felonies included charges for selling controlled substances, corporal injury on a cohabitant, defacing property, assault with a deadly weapon, and taking a vehicle without owner’s consent.

This weekend’s felony arrests included the arrest of murderer James Matthew Dorsey for the murder of his wife Michele Dorsey. Early Thursday April 15, 2021, Dorsey entered his estranged wife’s home and fatally stabbed her. He then led local authorities on an hours-long manhunt and pursuit before being officially taken into custody around 8:00 that evening.

A GoFundMe and a meal train have been set up for Michele Dorsey’s three sons and their family to cover expenses and care for the family during this time.

The overall record of arrests for the weekend is following the trend set in March of continually low numbers of arrests, and a decreasing number of arrests for driving under the influence (DUI). This past weekend, the 16th through the 18th, there were three arrests for DUI’s.

There were a total of nine alcohol and drug-related arrests, most for possession of a controlled substance, but one felony charge for selling controlled substances, and the three DUI’s.

Eight of the 16 total arrests were individuals who reside outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, including James Dorsey whose address is in Vancouver, WA. Two arrests were of Santa Clarita transient individuals, both for possession of a controlled substance.

The weekend concluded with 16 total arrests, with approximately 37 percent of those arrests being charged as felonies and nine total alcohol and drug-related charges. Most significantly was the arrest of James Dorsey, who is planned to appear in a first court appointment on Monday April 19, 2021 for the murder of his wife.
