A felony driving under the influence (DUI) suspect with over twice the legal blood-alcohol limit was taken into custody Sunday evening after rolling his vehicle in a Newhall crash injuring his passenger, officials said.
On Sunday, deputies responded to Wiley Canyon Road and Calgrove Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. regarding a rollover traffic collision, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon investigation, deputies learned a vehicle carrying two occupants was engaged in a traffic collision,” Arriaga said. “The deputy observed signs and symptoms similar to someone under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.”
The deputy conducted field sobriety tests and based on the results formed the opinion the suspect was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, according to Arriaga.
“It was determined the suspect also had a BAC level of .17,” Arriaga said, which is more than twice the legal blood-alcohol content limit of .08 percent.
The passenger of the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment, according to officials.
Adrian Rhodes, 27, from South Central Los Angeles, was arrested for felony DUI, due to him injuring someone in a traffic collision other than himself, as well as driving without an ignition interlock device previously mandated and driving on a suspended license, Arriaga added.
Rhodes was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $100,000, according to arrest records.
