Former SCV Deputy Stabbed On Idaho Interstate, Suspect Dead

A former Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputy was stabbed multiple times during a confrontation with an armed man on an Idaho interstate early Monday morning.

Now an Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy in Idaho, the deputy – who is unidentified to the public –  was seriously injured during a fatal incident with a man on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 near Eisenman Road, just east of the capital city of Boise, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, Ada County Emergency 911 dispatch received a call from a motorist about what was believed to be two men in dark clothing walking in the right lane of eastbound Interstate 8, according to Ada County Sheriff’s Office officials.

Jared Decker, 40, of Boise, was later identified as the man seen, who turned out to be walking alone with a bicycle.

“The caller said at least two trucks had to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting the man. Deputies arrived moments later and tried to talk to Decker and asked him to get off the highway,” read the official statement from Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Decker reportedly refused, yelled at the deputies, and kept going.

Deputies were unsuccessful in speaking to Decker and eventually decided to attempt to take him into custody to get him off the highway.

“When one of the deputies grabbed Decker’s backpack, he swung around and grabbed the deputy. As a struggle between the two began, Decker pulled out a knife and stabbed the deputy multiple times as they fell on the ground,” read the Ada County Sheriff’s Office statement.

The other two deputies shot Decker multiple times, incapacitating him.

“It was immediately obvious the deputy was badly injured, so another deputy got him into a patrol car and drove him to meet an ambulance closer to Boise,” stated Ada County officials. “While that was happening, deputies did first aid on Decker until paramedics arrived. They took him to a local hospital, where Decker was pronounced dead a brief time later.”

The injured deputy, whose identity has not been officially released, underwent multiple surgeries earlier today and is listed in stable condition.
