Illegal Food Vendors Targeted By Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Deputies

Local deputies are beginning to crack down on illegal food vendors after receiving several complaints from residents, according to officials.

On Thursday night, Crime Prevention Unit deputies were asked to enforce city code following numerous complaints.

“A vendor operating illegally was found near Pine and Newhall Avenue. The couple from Los Angeles running it were preparing and selling food without a health department permit and without a city issued vending permit,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “They were issued an administrative citation and asked to leave.”

Food vendors such as these may not be following all necessary food safety codes as required by the state, according to Sheriff’s officials.

A lack of handwashing stations, refrigeration or hot-holding, thermometers and no method of tracking food to its source are some of the health concerns associated with illegal food operations, according to an official statement.

“We care about keeping you safe from crime, and we care about your health too,” Miller added. “We will run more operations in the near future to scout out food vendors operating illegally, compromising our community’s well-being.

  1. I how about parking on top of the curb which it was never design to hold compounding weight ! The next item is the filthy grease that spills out while cooking on the sidewalks !!! I’m a cook and I want them to walk the line on safety and Health issues !!! I just caught the meat handler sweeping the floor in her area and using styrofoam as a dustpan at Superior Market in NoHo ! She ran to help me and attempted to glove up ! I told her in Spanish to wash your hands first before handle the meat ! More Daca Mentality

  2. I believe the complaints were made to the city and code enforcement officials requested LASD’s assistance. Your headline paints an different picture and unfairly shines a negative light on our Deputies.

    • Where can we report those illegal fools vendors ? I know
They don’t have a county health permit and they leave all the grease on the sidewalk attracting rats and other animals. We don’t want Santa Clarita looking like the city of LA looking like TJ …

  3. Just dont eat from them……they will get the hint. Good job guys cracking down.

  4. Good Work!! How about the fruit stand on Pico just over the I-5 bridge. Looks Nasty, again no hand washing for vendor.

  5. Just a question.. how are they allowed to run their business from city streets and sidewalks as well… does SCV let them use city property for free in order for them to make money in front of legitimate businesses that are actually renting a store front. Doesn’t make much sense to me, no wonder why the complains are pouring in taking place.

  6. Thank you LASD! We really appreciate you♥

  7. That illegal vendor is still there every night, they just moved further away from the busy street.

  8. Great Job LASD ! These food vendors don’t want to comply with health codes . They leave grease and trash on the sidewalk attracting rats and other animals.. And once one vendors starts others follow.. We don’t want Santa Clarita looking like the city of LA looking like TJ with vendors on every corner .. and if anyone wants to eat from
Their unsanitary food then drive 20 minutes to LA they are everywhere ..can anyone provide the number where to report these vendors
