A 19-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested in Newhall Sunday for threatening the new partner of the mother of his child with a knife.

At approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon on the 214000 block of Plane Tree Drive in Newhall, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the SCV Station.

During a verbal argument between the victim and Jose Gomez, the father of the victim’s stepdaughter, Gomez grabbed a kitchen knife and brandished it at the victim.

“The victim called for law enforcement personnel, and (Gomez) fled the location with the knife,” Arriaga said.

The victim was uninjured by the incident.

A short period later, Gomez returned to the location a was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

A resident of Los Angeles, Gomez was booked into the station and later released on bond.
