Man Arrested After Shattering Motel Window In Gorman, Charged With Felony Vandalism

A transient was arrested Wednesday evening in Gorman and charged with felony vandalism after he allegedly shattered a motel window, officials said.

Just before midnight on Wednesday, deputies responded to a motel on the 49700 block of Gorman Post Road for a vandalism call, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“(The suspect) was walking along the road and he picked up an object and threw it at one of the large windows of the motel and shattered it,” Miller said.

After the suspect threw the object, he reportedly ran from the location, according to officials.

When deputies arrived at the scene they were able to get a description of the suspect from surveillance footage captured by the motel’s cameras, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The deputy got in his car and started checking areas of Gorman, and sure enough, found a male adult that matched the description of the suspect in the surveillance footage,” Miller said.

Once the suspect was detained, the deputy asked him why he threw the object at the window.

“He told the deputy, he did it because his friends left him stranded,” Miller said.

No injuries were reported in the vandalism incident, and it is unknown as of the publication of this article if the room with the shattered window was occupied, Sheriff’s officials said.

Fidel Ruiz, 32, a transient, was arrested and charged with felony vandalism, Miller said.

Ruiz was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

  1. Is Gorman in SCV? We don’t have enough horrible headlines tonight, so they had to pull a Gorman story in for a headline?

  2. Yes, why report the only incident that happens in Gormon all year. You should write a story about the ridiculously high mello roos districts in the SCV and how stupid people get doped into paying $12,000 to $15,000 in extra mello roos taxes on top of their already high LA County property taxes to live in a small home in River Village, Valencia Tesoro or Plum Canyon.

  3. Maybe the distressed individual will get some help. At least he’ll a chance.

  4. Santa Clarita Sheriff Station patrols Gorman, like the communities of Castaic, Val Verde and parts of the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country and Saugus. SCV is the closest LACO city to Gorman so thanx to hometownstation we feel very included. Maybe they can write a story about the history of the Gorman area sometime…..

  5. Please tell me there is something in place for these transients for when they commit crimes to which the charge is a felony. They should automatically be placed in a system to be denied government assistance/free living. Its time to take the kid gloves off and hold these POS accountable for their actions. We need to direct our homeless funds to those that are in real need and eliminate those who are in fact criminals or law breakers. You cant have your cake and eat it too.

    • Travis, your logic fails, because if these lost transients don’t get any assistance, what will they do ? Right, more crime. And that will make the correctional private business even happier. It costs ~45k year / inmate in tax dollars. Do you think public assistance / food stamps amount anywhere close to 45 k ? You must have failed 1st grade math.

      • Oh boy here we go again and I’m not surprised. Anytime you have a different view opposed to a Leftie they attack your intelligence based off zero facts. Speaking of first grade we also learned right and wrong. I do not give a shit what someone’s financial stand point is or how much it cost the state. Breaking the law is breaking the law. NO MORE FREE HAND OUTS FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT RESPECT AND OBEY OUR LAWS. ITS THAT SIMPLE. Why you would make excuses for those that contribute nothing to society is beyond me. I don’t care how much its cost to imprison them. Did they break the law??? You commit the crime you’re doing the time. I’m taking a stab at this but I bet you picked your kid up every single time they fell down and gave them a treat for it. Well this is what happens when you do that. If you want to shell out your hard earned money then go ahead and do it but they’re not getting anything from me. When asked if I have any spare change I will continue to respond with “Sure do you have change for a hundred?” If you continue to feed that stray dog it will always come back for more.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
