Man Suffers ‘Major Injuries’ After Car-To-Car Shooting Near Santa Clarita

A man was rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot in the face during a car-to-car shooting near the Newhall Pass.

Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area office responded to a freeway shooting on the northbound 5 Freeway, north of Roxford Street near the Newhall Pass, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the Office.

The victim was driving a green Honda Civic northbound on I-5, when an unknown number of rounds was fired at the victim by a driver in a black sedan.

“Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who received a gunshot wound to the left side of his lower jaw area,” Greengard said.

Following the shooting, the suspect in the black sedan fled, continuing northbound on the 5 Freeway.

“The victim crashed into a sedan before pulling over to the right shoulder coming to a stop,” Greengard said.

The victim remained on scene, and 9-1-1 was called by passing motorists. “Los Angeles City Fire responded to the scene and transported the victim to Holy Cross Medical Center to be treated for his injuries,” Greengard said. “The victim has major injuries to his face/jaw that are non-life-threatening.”

During their investigation, CHP officers believe the suspect and victim were involved in a road rage incident before the shooting occurred, according to Greengard.

At this time, there has been no identification made of the possible suspect or suspect vehicle, (unknown black sedan, tinted windows).

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Officer C. Penza at the CHP Newhall Area Office at (661) 600-1600

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
