A man who allegedly threatened a family member with a machete was arrested Wednesday by deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Arnold Mendoza, a 51-year-old man reportedly got into a verbal altercation with a relative Tuesday night, said Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. The altercation allegedly took place at a Newhall residence, but officials did not disclose if it was at Mendoza’s home.

The Newhall resident allegedly “held a machete to a relative’s neck in a threatening manner,” during the argument.

Deputies received the call and arrested Mendoza on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Bail was set at $30,000. Mendoza is expected to return to the San Fernando Superior Courthouse on Jan. 12
