Around 9 a.m., first responders received reports of a structure fire on the 23800 block of The Old Road at the Church of Nazarene, said Christopher Thomas, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Deputies also received reports that there was a man in the middle of The Old Road waving a cross at passing vehicles, said Lt. Eric Lasko with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“When deputies got on scene and cornered off the area, a deputy saw a person walking on the southbound 5 Freeway matching the suspect (description),” Lasko said.

Deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office responded to the southbound 5 Freeway south of Calgrove Boulevard, where they took the suspect — who was reportedly only wearing underwear — into custody, Lasko said.

The southbound 5 Freeway was shut down briefly while deputies detained the suspect, according to officials.

As of the publication of this article, deputies are still determining what the suspect will be charged with while he remains in custody, according to Sheriff’s officials.

  1. It’s funny how the officer behind him is taking a picture of the guys butt with his phone. Not very professional, but funny.

  2. It’s for identification purposes in case he escapes!!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
