Homicide detectives and investigators with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner returned to the Santa Clarita Riverbed Saturday morning to continue their investigation into the discovery of human remains.
Investigators employed the use of a cadaver dog to conduct a search of the area near the South Fork Creek and Magic Mountain Parkway.
“During the search, additional human remains were discovered approximately 100 yards from Wednesday’s discovery of a human skull,” said Deputy Grace Medrano of the LASD Information Bureau. “It appears the two discoveries are related, but no determination will be made pending further investigation by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.”
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the Santa Clara riverbed near Magic Mountain Parkway at the South Fork Trail bike path around 11 a.m Wednesday.
“Detectives have learned, a utility employee discovered a human skull within the riverbed,” said Deputy Armando Viera Jr.
Officials documented the scene and recovered the remains, and will work with homicide detectives towards identifying the victim and cause of death.
No information regarding the gender or age of the deceased individual was made available as of Saturday afternoon.
