A mother was arrested Sunday on felony assault charges after she allegedly swung a kitchen knife at her daughter, cutting her boyfriend who was trying to deescalate the situation during an argument, officials said.
On Sunday around 4:20 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road regarding a family disturbance call, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The suspect and victim are mother/daughter,” Miller said. “They reportedly were having an argument and the suspect, the mother, was allegedly holding a kitchen knife and swinging it towards the victim, making verbal threats.”
The victim’s boyfriend tried to get the knife away from the suspect and was cut in the process, according to Miller.
Both victims declined medical treatment at the scene, according to Sheriff’s officials.
The suspect, Joanna Torres, 38, of Canyon Country, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, the knife and criminal threats, according to Miller.
Torres was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $30,000, according to arrest records.
