Nearly Half Of Santa Clarita Arrests Over Veterans Day Weekend Are From Out Of Town

Over Veterans Day weekend, local law enforcement made over 40 arrests ranging from felony DUI to attempted murder, with nearly half of the suspects being from out of town, officials said.

Friday morning through Monday evening, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers arrested 44 individuals in Santa Clarita, with 21 of the individuals arrested from out of town, according to arrest records.

On Saturday around 1 a.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office were monitoring the 5 Freeway after receiving reports of an attempted murder suspect out of Yuba City possibly headed for Mexico, said Officer Josh Greengard, a spokesperson for the office.

At approximately 1:46 a.m., officers reportedly located the vehicle traveling southbound on the 5 Freeway within the city of Santa Clarita, according to officials.

“While additional officers were getting into position to conduct an enforcement stop, the vehicle suddenly came to a stop in traffic lanes and the driver fled on foot,” Greengard said.

A containment was set up, and at 4:39 a.m., Adrian Vivanco, 38, was taken into custody.

During the Veterans Day weekend, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers made 11 DUI arrests, with two of them felonies, according to officials.

In order to be charged with a felony DUI, a driver has to either injure someone other than themselves or be convicted of three prior DUIs within 10 years, and over the weekend both criteria were met by alleged drunk drivers, according to officials.

On Sunday around 5 p.m.. first responders received reports of a traffic collision near Golden Valley Road and Dorothy Street in Canyon Country, said Scott Shoemaker, a traffic sergeant for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“She caused a collision where a victim in another car had a broken arm from the crash,” Shoemaker said.

When deputies arrived, they conducted a field sobriety test on one of the drivers, and through a breathalyzer test, it was determined the driver blew a .20, nearly triple the legal limit of .08, Shoemaker said.

However, deputies are still awaiting a blood test for more accurate readings, according to officials.

Ashlee Giffordea, 25, of Castaic, was arrested and charged with felony DUI with bail set at $100,000, according to arrest records.

  1. I travel 3 to 4 times a year to northern California, usually Chico, and sometimes Redding. Ever since United Airlines dropped Chico, I now make the drive drive from Sacramento to Chico, and have to pass through Yuba City. All I can say about Yuba City….Ticket Town!!!

    Great job officers!!

  2. The headline of this piece is sub-standard journalism and is a bit xenophobic.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
