A Newhall assault suspect was arrested Monday after he allegedly attacked a person during an argument last month.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July, 23, deputies responded to a Newhall assault in the 23100 block of Lyons Avenue, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon arrival, deputies contacted the victim and immediately observed he had a laceration on the top of his head, which he was bleeding from,” Arriaga said.
During investigation, deputies learned at approximately 1:30 a.m., the victim and a male engaged in a verbal argument, which escalated to a physical altercation, according to Arriaga.
“During the altercation, the male hit the victim in the head with what was believed to be a knife,” Arriaga said. “The male fled on foot with a female companion and remained outstanding at the time the report was taken.”
The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
With follow-up investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect, according to Arriaga.
On Monday, detectives contacted the suspect at his residence on the 24900 block of Walnut Street in Newhall.
Osmar Sandoval, 23, from Newhall, was arrested and booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station for assault with a deadly weapon, and remains in custody as of Wednesday.
