Newhall Attempted Murder Sends Stabbing Victim To Hospital, Suspect At Large

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Newhall attempted murder after a victim was stabbed early Sunday morning, officials said.

Around 3:43 a.m. Sunday, officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) responded to an attempted murder on the 24000 block of Race Street in Newhall, according to Deputy Lucero with the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station learned that the crime had occurred after a call from Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, according to Lt. Eric Lasko.

“They had a victim of a stabbing, and the victim stated that on the 24000 block of Race Street, he had gotten into a fight with someone he knows,” Lasko said. “After the fight, the suspect fled and the victim realized that he had been stabbed or slashed several times.”

According to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a 9-1-1 hang-up call was received from around the intersection of 4th Street and Race St. during the same time frame. However, they were unable to determine the source of the call, according to Dispatcher Art Marrough.

“Somebody called 9-1-1, (we) looked around, but were unable to locate,” Marrough said.

The extent of the victim’s injuries is currently unknown as of Sunday afternoon.

LASD officials are currently searching for the attempted murder suspect, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, according to Lasko.
