Newhall Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested After Found To Be Drunk

A Newhall hit-and-run suspect was arrested Monday night after he was determined to be “under the influence of an alcoholic beverage” following a crash that sent one pedestrian to the hospital.

At around 7:10 p.m. Monday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a traffic collision near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and 8th Street in Newhall.

“It was a vehicle versus pedestrian,” said Supervisor Ornelas with the department at the time.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with a “non-life-threatening injury,” according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Officials later learned that the crash was an instance of hit-and-run, as the vehicle reportedly involved in the incident was not found at the site of the crash, according to officials on scene.

It was reported the suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a red convertible Mustang with a black top,” Arriaga said.

Deputies were later able to locate the suspect, 43-year-old Fabian Vergara-Rendon, at around 8:30 p.m., and proceeded to detain him.

“The suspect was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage after field sobriety tests were conducted,” Arriaga said.

Vergara-Rendon was arrested on a felony charge for driving under the influence causing injury, and was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail for booking.

Arrest records indicate that his bail was set at $155,000.

    • Mr Picasso — Most people, whether Latino, Black, White or Asian — are opposed to illegal immigration. However, the penalty for this crime is not execution. I wonder what the penalty should be for hate…
