Non-Santa Clarita Residents Make Up Majority Of Weekend Arrest Offenders

Weekend crime reports for July 30-August 1 feature another week of record low numbers for this time of year in Santa Clarita.

With a total of 14 arrests over the three days, this is significantly less than the 40 arrests made per weekend this time last year, 65 percent less to be specific, according to arrest logs.

2021 has seen a downward trend in arrests made every weekend, with the weekly reports getting smaller and smaller numbers, according to official reports.

Of the 14 arrests made this past weekend, nine of the detainees were from outside of Santa Clarita, some even from as far as Seaside and Newark.

Twelve of the 14 arrests were made for charges related to drugs and/or alcohol. There were seven arrests made for charges of driving under the influence (DUI), and five for possession of or under the influence of controlled substances.

The remaining two arrests were made for domestic situations, one for breaking a restraining order and one account of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant.

Only 14 percent of the arrests made received felony charges, the other 12 being charged with misdemeanors. The two felony arrests made were for sale of controlled substances and the domestic incident that resulted in a charge of corporal injury of a spouse/cohabitant.

A look back into the past, on this first weekend of August in 2020, Daniel Cierzan was arrested for the alleged murder of his uncle back in 2017. After a years-long investigation, police were finally able to arrest Cierzan, though he had been a person of interest since Will Cierzan’s original disappearance.
