NorCal Man Arrested For Threatening To Throw Coffee At Burger King Customers, Assaulting Deputy

A Northern California man was arrested Wednesday after reportedly threatening to throw hot coffee at customers at a Newhall Burger King before allegedly assaulting a deputy, officials said.

On Feb. 26 around 10 a.m., deputies responded to a business on the 24500 block of Lyons Avenue in Newhall regarding a male adult “who said he was going to throw coffee at customers,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect reportedly grabbed a large coffee pot and was swinging it towards the victim’s face, an employee,” Miller said.

When deputies arrived at the location and made contact with the suspect, the suspect allegedly became combative with deputies, according to Miller.

The suspect, Zachary Hayes, 30, of Danville, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a peace officer, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Hayes is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail on $30,000 bail.
