One person was sent to the hospital early Saturday morning after a brief Newhall pursuit ended with the suspect crashing into an occupied parked vehicle.
Before 3 a.m. Saturday, officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were notified of a silver Mercedes Benz traveling at a “high rate of speed” on the 210 Freeway, heading towards Santa Clarita.
“A CHP unit caught up to them exiting on Newhall Avenue off of the 14 Freeway,” said Sgt. Perryman with the CHP Newhall Office. “(They) ended up over here at Dockweiler Drive, then ran the red light to get onto Dockweiler Drive.”
The CHP unit then reportedly activated the emergency lights of their vehicle in an attempt to pull the suspects over, according to Perryman.
“The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued,” he said.
The suspect proceeded to turn onto Fern Drive and make a series of U-turns before eventually making his way back to Dockweiler Dr. and colliding with several parked cars.
“One of the parked cars was occupied by four male individuals,” Perryman said. “One of them was injured and transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.”
The male driver was taken into custody by CHP officers on scene, and is expected to be charged with a felony for evading a peace officer while causing injury, according to Perryman.
While several bottles of alcohol were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle, officials could not confirm whether or not the driver would be charged with driving under the influence as of Saturday morning.
“It’s being investigated,” Perryman said. “It just hasn’t been determined on what the intoxication level of the driver was at this time.”
