Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station handed out 34 citations for traffic violations Wednesday, officials said.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s motor deputies were watching for “red light runners” during morning commute hours on Wednesday. Deputies deployed to major intersections during the special enforcement to observe drivers for unsafe driving, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station.

At the end of the operation, thirteen drivers were cited for running a red light, eleven drivers were cited for cell phone use and seven drivers were cited for unsafe speed.

Two drivers were cited for illegal u-turns and 1 driver was cited for not yielding to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, according to Miller.

“According to a report by AAA, deaths caused by drivers running red lights nationwide hit their highest rate in 10 years,” Miller said. “Our families, your families. Let’s keep everyone safe.”

  1. Right on, Officers. That’s good news actually. Hope you get more. Even if you do, they’ll NEVER stop texting, running red lights & lately, I’ve even been seeing cars cutting of pedestrians as they walk from the crosswalk. This needs to stop. Keep up the AMAZING work, Officers.

  2. Please please Keep doing this It’s getting really bad all day every day I see dozens of drivers that make a right turn at a red light and don’t even stop at the corner or are driving holding their phone like a slice of pizza talking on It. Or severely running the light to make the left turn

  3. Thank you, David and Jason, right on the comment is right.
