Reckless Driver Charged With Felony Evading After Injuring Two In 5 Freeway Pursuit Crash

Officers arrested a reckless driver Sunday and charged him with felony evading after he allegedly crashed during a 5 Freeway pursuit, injuring two other individuals, officials said.

On Sunday around 4 p.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office received a 9-1-1 call of a reckless driver on the 5 Freeway in Santa Clarita, said Officer Josh Greengard, a spokesperson for the office.

“Officers were able to locate the vehicle and attempted to make an enforcement stop,” Greengard said.

The vehicle fled from officers and a pursuit was initiated, according to CHP officials.

After a brief pursuit, the suspect crashed into another car on the northbound 5 Freeway near Hasley Canyon Road, injuring two people in the other vehicle, Greengard said.

Martin Ordonez, 22, of Thousand Oaks, was arrested and charged for evading a peace officer causing great bodily injury, a felony, Greengard said.

Ordonez was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $215,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
