Reported Weekend Drug-, Alcohol-Related Arrests In Santa Clarita Decrease

The number of reported arrests in Santa Clarita related to drugs and alcohol decreased by 20 percent compared to the previous weekend, while the overall number of arrests reported increased, officials said Monday.

Between Friday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 15, a total of 35 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, according to weekend arrest logs.

This represents an overall increase of about 17 percent in total arrests reported compared to the previous weekend, when 30 total arrests were reported.

Of those arrests in Santa Clarita reported, 16 were related to drugs and alcohol, with eight DUI arrests reported, five for possession of a controlled substance, two for being under the influence and one for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to weekend booking logs.

This number represents an overall decrease of 20 percent compared to last weekend’s reported 20 drug- and alcohol-related arrests.

Nine arrests were made for people who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while six were reportedly homeless, according to arrest logs.

One such individual was arrested Friday evening after deputies discovered he was allegedly in possession of narcotics.

“We like to know everyone who’s in our town,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in an official post Sunday. “So when deputies were patrolling Friday evening and saw a man they didn’t recognize panhandling outside a business on the 23300 block of Valencia Boulevard, they decided to go meet him.”

The 24-year-old Glendora man was not only allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine, but was also reportedly on parole with an “outstanding, no-bail warrant,” according to Miller.

“We were very glad to make his acquaintance, and transported him straight to jail,” Miller wrote.

The suspect, Bryce Sauvageau, was booked for possession of a controlled substance, with no bail amount set due to his warrant, according to officials.

  1. Congratulations. You arrested a young man who needed help. I’m so glad for you. He died last week.

    • Yeah that is my brother Bryce Sauvageau. I am so disappointed in the system and how they just arrest people on drugs when they should be putting them in a treatment facility to get the help they need. The system sets people up to fail. Thanks a lot. He passed away last week.
