Robbery Suspects From Bakersfield Arrested On 5 Freeway In Castaic

Three robbery suspects were arrested Saturday evening on the 5 Freeway in Castaic, officials said.

On April 4, around  8 p.m., deputies responded to a grocery store on the 29600 block of The Old Road in Castaic regarding a robbery that had just occurred, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“A suspect left the grocery store with a cart full of groceries without attempting to pay for them,” Miller said.

When a store employee tried to stop the suspect, the suspect allegedly pushed her to the ground, according to Miller

The alleged thief got into a getaway vehicle with two other suspects and drove out of view towards the direction of the northbound 5 Freeway, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“A crime broadcast was put out to all patrol units with the suspect’s vehicle description,” Miller said. “Deputies located the suspects and vehicle at the Oak Flat Campground.”

One suspect was brought into custody, Ricardo Javier Leyva Ruelas, in the traffic stop, but deputies were unable to locate the other two suspects, according to Miller.

Later, the same night, a call was received that two pedestrians were seen walking along the 5 Freeway, Sheriff’s officials said.

Responding units made contact and the two individuals, Monica Regalado and Andrew Lizama were determined through investigation to be the two other suspects sought in connection with the robbery.

All three suspects were from the Bakersfield area, according to Miller

Ruelas and Lizama are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, with Regalado being held on $60,000 bail.

  1. I’m glad that the Sheriff Dept is getting off there Asses and are starting to work for a living. I’ve seen them many times at the park on Sloan Cyn sleeping in there cars. I’ve been told by local Sheriffs that’s how they get our OT and pull in 200k a year and put surround music systems in there patrol cars. Well our Neighbors is getting more and more low level scum bags robbing us blind and people driving 65MPH DOWN SLOAN CYN coming from the new high school!! So if you ever want to find a sleep Sheriff’s in there car go up Sloan Cyn in Castaic. Or see 10 Sheriffs cars pulling over one car at Sloan Cyn and the 5 Fwy! There a joke.

  2. Funny, this article mentions absolutely nothing about the amazing citizen who followed the suspect while on the phone with dispatch all the way up the 5 and stayed at the bottom of oak flats making sure they didnt get away until deputies arrived… and THEN IDd the suspect then and there for ya.

  3. That citizen is brave & great! Wish we had more like that!! Thanks for risking & going out of your way to help justice & our neighbors! Unfortunately, because of Liberals like Gascon who wrote Prop. 47, those scumbags will be out of jail by morning!! Liberals, degeneration from Seattle to San Diego!!

  4. The USFS & sheriffs probably patrol, but unfortunately are told to stand down because of the loud mouth, socialists/communist Liberals/ACLU/etc.! They’ll do nothing until the vagrants start the next wildfire &/or CORVID outbreak/catastrophe!! Thanks Newsom/Garshity/Gascon for continued degradation of CA!! And the sheepish fools keep voting Democrat!!

  5. They robbed Ralph’s and I chased them. They were going all over. Trying to get home to bakersfield but foolishly pulled off at templin, turned right like idiots then flipped a uturn in front of me and like idiots went to the camp ground and got stuck until officers arrived.
