Santa Clarita Valley arrests saw a 33 percent increase during Memorial Day weekend, a smaller jump compared to last year’s holiday weekend.

Between Friday, May 28 and Monday, May 31, 36 arrests were made in Santa Clarita, compared to 65 last year over Memorial Day weekend during the pandemic, according to arrest records.

Over 70 percent of arrests this weekend were drug and alcohol-related. Of all the arrests made over the weekend, 14 were on DUI charges and 6 were on intoxication charges, authorities said.

Five of the arrests made were on felony charges compared to seven last weekend, according to last weekend’s booking log.

People living outside of Santa Clarita accounted for half of all arrests. Three transients were also arrested, officials said.
