Santa Clarita Crime ‘Significantly Down’ During ‘Safer At Home’ Order

Santa Clarita crime has reportedly “significantly” decreased while residents are practicing “Safer At Home” during the coronavirus pandemic, officials said Friday.

While talking with Captain Justin Diez with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, he confirmed that crime is down, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station.

Diez said this can be attributed to several different factors, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Deputies are out there conducting proactive patrols and enforcement, according to officials.

“Sheriff Alex Villaneuva has provided our station with additional patrol resources, giving law enforcement higher visibility in our community,” Miller said.

Specialized teams in the Detective Bureau have been redeployed for high visibility and crime suppression efforts, Miller said.

On Tuesday night, the Crime Impact Team (CIT) conducted a special operation that resulted in several arrests and citations.

“The extra resources allocated and proactive enforcement of the deputies, coupled with the fact that more people are staying at home in adherence to the Safer At Home order, crime is significantly down,” Miller added.

  1. They must be bored now that there are less people out there to hand out tickets to, we know cops love passing out tickets. Those officers should be wearing masks too everyone needs one or a bandana to stop this from spreading

  2. Of course it is when things close at 8pm, they have nowhere to go, but the drug dealers are still active. My neighbor has people over from 5am to whenever. in and out, in and out.. over and over again… and we added more sheriffs for why?

  3. Less people are out and about including, it would seem, sheriff deputies. In my limited ventures into the SCV, mostly to get necessary supplies, I have seen next to none. Where are they? With so few civilians driving around they should stand out even more than normal. Remember normal? it seems so long ago.

Back to face masks- Several days ago my job required me to visit two medical buildings. I was issued gloves and a face mask. That is how I happen to have one. I’d tried previously w/o success to find any. America has now taken the worldwide lead in total number of cases so if you know how to obtain these much-needed face masks please spread the word, not the virus. I now wear mine when entering a place where I will be in close proximity with others so as not to infect them and to also protect me. It works both ways.

  4. The raw numbers for Santa Clarita:
In the last 8 days (lockdown) there have been:
    No rapes or murders
    2 armed robberies
    4 stolen cars (GTA)
    7 burglaries
    32 assaults (largely domestic violence)

    Since 1/1/2020 there have been:
    1 murder
    3 rapes
    15 armed robberies
    58 stolen cars (GTA)
    96 burglaries
    370 assaults

I’ve been seeing a LOT of deputies out on patrol since the lockdown began. I notice they even dragged some of the old Crown Vic patrol cars out of storage to put more people on the streets. And bless them, they are making a difference- the crime stats for the neighboring SFV are abysmal.

  5. Who’s causing the Mayhem?!? Japanese Chinese , Koreans??!! Tell the truth/facts—what groups/cultures of people are continually doing it?!?! If we’re lied to & facts/truths are covered-up, how can we help/change for the better?!?!

    • You could help by knocking off your continual race-bating trying to stir up hatred, fear and divisiveness.
Your comments remind me a lot of Charles Manson’s goal which was to start a race war. Yes, you’re goddamn right I am comparing you to Charles Manson.

  6. Not trying to race bait anyone. We just want the truth/facts of who is causing the war against decent citizens!! How can we be defensive is we don’t know who’s causing the constant problems!?

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
