Santa Clarita Law Enforcement Makes 17 Drug, Alcohol Arrests Over President’s Day Weekend

Over President’s Day Weekend, local law enforcement made 17 drug and alcohol-related arrests, including one DUI driver who was involved in a Sunday morning crash.

Starting Friday, Feb. 15 through Monday, Feb. 18, officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested 17 individuals for drug and alcohol-related charges while patrolling city streets.

Of the 17 arrests, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested nine DUI suspects, four individuals for being in possession of a controlled substance– including one for having drugs in the jail– and two individuals for being either drunk or under the influence of a controlled substance in public.

CHP officers made two DUI arrest, and one of the drivers was charged with a felony DUI that resulted in injury.
“On Sunday at 2:07 a.m. we responded to a solo vehicle traffic collision of a pickup truck versus the center divider on the southbound 14 freeway, north of the 5,” said Eric Priessman, a spokesperson for the CHP Newhall office.

The driver was transported to the hospital before being taken to jail, he said.

All of the individuals arrested were transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
