Santa Clarita Man Arrested After Pursuit For Kidnapping, Assault

A Santa Clarita man wanted for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon was arrested after a pursuit in Glendale, officials said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 21 at about 5:15 p.m., the Glendale Police Department (GPD) received a 9-1-1 call during which dispatchers could hear an active struggle going on between a male and a female before the phone disconnected, according to Sgt. Christian Hauptmann, spokesperson for the department.

Glendale Police immediately received a second call from a person reporting that a male was beating up a female in the area of Harvard Street and Chevy Chase Drive and officers were dispatched to the area, according to investigators.

“The female victim called 9-1-1 again and dispatch could hear a continued struggle during which the female began screaming hysterically,” Hauptmann said.

Officers arrived on the scene within a minute of the first 9-1-1 call and located the suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Saul Trujillo, of Santa Clarita, leaning into a vehicle with a female seated in the front passenger seat.

As officers attempted to contact Trujillo, he fled in the vehicle, ramming into one of the marked Glendale Police patrol units. Glendale Police units initiated a vehicle pursuit of Trujillo, during which Trujillo crashed into multiple occupied and parked unoccupied vehicles.

The pursuit stayed within the general area of Downtown Glendale and ended when Trujillo collided with vehicles in the area of Glendale Ave and Broadway.

When officers attempted to take Trujillo into custody, he was unresponsive to their commands and became combative.

Officers deployed a Taser, a brief struggle ensued and Trujillo was taken into custody, according to Hauptmann.

Trujillo was arrested and booked for kidnapping, felony assault, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and a parole violation.
