Santa Clarita Thanksgiving Weekend Arrests Drop By Nearly Half Compared To Last Year

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Santa Clarita Valley arrest logs reported a total of 26 bookings, a sharp drop by about 50 percent compared to last year’s holiday weekend, according to law enforcement officials.

Between Wednesday, Nov. 24 and Sunday Nov. 28, a total of 26 arrests, compared to last year’s 53 in the same time period, were reported in Santa Clarita by deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

Sixteen of this weekend’s 26 bookings were related to drugs or alcohol, 14 of which were reported as driving-under-the-influence (DUI), according to arrest logs.

The reported 14 DUI arrests are an increase compared to last Thanksgiving weekend’s 11, according to law enforcement officials.

None of the reported DUI’s were listed as felonies, according to arrest logs.

A few notable arrests this weekend include evading the police, theft of personal property, carrying a loaded handgun and refusing to leave property upon request, according to officials.

Some of the arrests may be attributable to CHP’s Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP), which began at 6:01 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, and continued through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28, according to CHP officials.

Sixteen of those arrested this weekend by local law enforcement were residents outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, according to officials.
