Santa Clarita Vandalism Suspect Arrested After Damaging Vehicle, Fleeing From Deputies

A Santa Clarita vandalism suspect was arrested Monday after he allegedly damaged a vehicle with a baseball bat and fled from deputies on foot.

Around 8:20 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to Santa Clarita Park in the 27000 block of Seco Canyon Road in Saugus regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call for service, said Deputy Candice Gonzales, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported by multiple witnesses that the male adult was throwing a baseball bat,” Gonzales said.

When deputies arrived, they were directed by witnesses towards the direction where the suspect had been last seen running away, Gonzales said.

“As deputies attempted to detain the suspect matching the description, the suspect refused to comply with their orders and a brief foot pursuit ensued resulting in force,” Gonzales said.

It was later discovered the suspect used the baseball bat causing permanent damage to the victim’s vehicle, according to Gonzales.

Matthew Delio, 33, from Santa Clarita, was arrested for felony vandalism, Gonzales added.

Delio was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $20,000, according to officials.

  1. Glad Delio was arrested before he could use the bat on a person!

  2. Hey Bustos, wait until all the evidence is in before you make silly statements like that .. Delio got the charges
dropped today as the evidence indicated no crime was committed ..

    • Hey Gerry, Why don’t you get your facts straight before making silly statements. We were there as It was my sons bat that he stole from his bat bag before going out on a rampage.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
