Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Round-Up: Arrests On The Decline

Santa Clarita arrests were down 20 percent last weekend; however, the amount of drug- and alcohol-related arrests remained the same, according to officials.

Between Friday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 26, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office made 36 arrests within the Santa Clarita Valley, according to weekend arrest records.

Of those arrests, 24 were related to drugs and alcohol, with 12 reported instances of DUI, five arrests for possession of a controlled substance and four reported incidents of being under the influence or drunk in public.

The previous holiday weekend saw more overall arrests at a total of 45, with 31 of those being drug- and alcohol-related. This past weekend’s drug- and alcohol-related arrests represented 24 out of 36 total arrests.

While there was a 20 percent decrease in arrests from the previous weekend, the percentage of drug- and alcohol-related arrests was largely the same, representing nearly two out of three arrests.

A total of nine of the arrests made were for individuals who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while four were reportedly transients, according to weekend arrest records.
