Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Round Up: Drug-, Alcohol-Related Crimes Decrease

Reported drug- and alcohol-related crimes have decreased over the past two weekends, but law enforcement officials stayed busy, arresting one individual for allegedly stealing a golf cart.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall office made a total of 29 arrests and citations between Friday, April 19 and Sunday, April 21, according to arrest logs.

Of these arrests and citations, 15 were related to drugs and alcohol, an almost 25 percent decrease compared to the 19 made the weekend before.

This number is also in line with the average number of arrests and citations made on drug- and alcohol-related charges over the weekends of April.

Almost half of these arrests and citations come from instances of driving under the influence (DUI). In one instance, an arrested driver’s bail was set at $100,000.

If you’re planning on drinking, make sure you have a sober driver,” reads a weekend post from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “It’s not just about you. There are other people on the roads who want to get where they are going safely.”

While drug- and alcohol-related crimes saw a decline over the weekend, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were kept busy, with one individual reportedly stealing a golf cart in Valencia, according to officials.

Before 4 p.m. Saturday, deputies received reports that a man had stolen a golf cart from the Vista Valencia Golf Course on the 24700 block of Trevion Drive.

After finding the stolen cart in the nearby wash, deputies arrested 30-year-old Robert Alonso on felony charges of allegedly taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, according to weekend arrest logs.

Alonso was transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where bail was set at $40,000.
